Soggy roots ain’t good!
It’s spring time on Needle Eye Mountain and that means it’s time to plant a garden. Now one would think with 188 acres it would be easy to find the perfect spot… but this mountain tamer still has a few things to learn. I picked out a spot with good sun. On the down side…

It’s spring time on Needle Eye Mountain! The wild red buds and dogwoods are in full bloom and when they bloom… out come the morel mushrooms! I haven’t posted since we finished the house. I figured we had finished our journey… but…I’ve had so many folks ask “where’s the blog? I miss seeing what is…

It’s a wrap! Part 2
We started looking seriously for the land in December of 2021. Made multiple trips up to Arkansas. We purchased Needle Eye Mountain in May, house plans were drawn in July, and we moved up to Arkansas and broke ground on the build in August of 2022. The first phase of dirt work got us a…

It’s a wrap! Part 1
After 14 months we have finished the house on Needle Eye Mountain! We went from this To this What an experience. We wrangled snakes, rats, spiders, wasps, and the occasional critter to clear the original homestead and make way for the build. We filled 6 professional size dumpsters. Took eight refrigerators to the salvage yard.…

This week on Needle Eye Mountain we have had the floor guys here putting in the wood floors, plumbers putting in faucets, bathtubs and toilets and ditches dug and ready for propane tank and lines. Fun note… when you dig ditches for gas and then it rains 2 inches… you can’t finish the install 😖……

Door Bedazzled
We found this old door while cleaning out the barn. One look at it and I said “dumpster” … Scott, being the antique hunter that he is, said… “it’s a perfect pantry door… it just needs some TLC”. I had been on the hunt for an antique door for the pantry and y’all they ain’t…

Time to wear camo…
It’s finally arrived… Scott’s favorite time of year …. hunting season… and now he doesn’t have to go far to hunt. Scott has been working on two locations to ready his hunt. First a bear bait area all the way at the back of the mountain (note to bears… stay back there!) and a deer…

Boulders to bandages…
Progress is happening at Needle Eye. We are on the third week (hopefully last week) of painting the inside. While the house is wrapped up with paint supplies we are starting to get ready for grading the lot. The dirt guy said he would be able to place boulders to build the wall walkway, put…

Not bad for Leftovers –
Sometimes leftovers can be eh…. Sometimes green and down right yucky. But sometimes, not bad at all. Well we had some rock left over from the house and rather than send it back or store it somewhere, Scott had the great idea of lining the stairs with it. I think it turned out great. Not…

Oh yeah… Needle Eye got its sexy thing on…
When it starts getting cool outside I start to think of hot chocolate (yes it’s just a week of coolness right now but 70’s feel darn good)…. So out of respect to the 1975 hit by Hot Chocolate it is my pleasure to announce that yes, I do believe in miracles … our windows have…

We did it… we painted the house black!!!
The builder said “wait what….” I said yep… “we are going with the black paint!” The painter said.. “this will be my first….” Scott said.. “Are you sure..” But after a whole lot of back and forth, scouring of Pinterest and lots of HGTV’ing, I decided to go for it! And… I love it. Here…

Let’s settle this… how does one pronounce the word cement?
This question is one that makes one really sit and think. Where I’m from we say “cee_ment”, where Scott’s from they say “seh_mint”…. Now you should know that before we moved to Needle Eye Mountain, we lived in Midlothian, Texas which is the Cement capital of Texas… so my friends in Midlo I’m banking on…
