Take that critter… (s)

Well the free range lifestyle of our chickens has been abruptly halted thanks to an unwanted critter who had the audacity to pick off 3 of our beloved birds!😖

To get the chickens safe and sound and critter free, we built a chicken run and tunnel. Took us a week to get it all done and I think it turned out so cute.

Framing the run
Building a tunnel from the coop to the run
Cute little door for the coop that gets locked each evening

We only had to encourage the chickens once to try out the tunnel and now they are in and out through out the day.

Fits our biggest rooster, Bartholomew, perfectly. Note the treads for the birds on the incline.
Red giving it her approval
From inside the coop down the tunnel

Scott put up a trail cam so we can watch for any additional critters and low and behold last night a whole family of raccoons came to inspect the new run…. So now we are making a top for the run… take that again critters…. Life on Needle Eye is certainly not boring!

Critters return….

Due to the unfortunate early demise of our 3 birds, we have added 6 new hens and 2 very adorable Guineas chicks (a gift from Kate.. thank you..)

Check out the hairdo or is it “feather do” on the buff one in the back!

The best benefit to the run is no more chasing the chickens around at sunset 😂. Stay tuned for the critter round up …. 🙄😳 … kidding… not kidding… raccoons be warned. It’s on!
