John Deere tractors have inspired more than one country song. Probably the biggest was Jason Aldean’s 2009 hit “Big Green Tractor.” They are truly iconic, but not one song talks about dang pricey they are.

But despite the cost, it sure has come in handy in trying to tame Needle Eye Mountain.

Scott is a natural. His farm-boy roots came right on out as soon as the thing was delivered. Me? Not so much. It has taken me forever to get the hang of it. I’m still driving in turtle speed, but I’m slowly getting speedier on it. The company slogan may be “Nothing Runs Like a Deere,” but perhaps it should be “Nothing Crawls Like Our Deere.”
So far, Scott has cut down about four acres of woods around the house and shed, and cleared a two-track (That what Scott calls it. It’s just country jargon for an unpaved, ungraded road) all around the mountain to make riding the side-by-side ATV a better experience. That farm boy can work!

Proof I can drive it. Check out my snake boots — you never know.
