What have we done?

It sounds so exciting to just sell your stuff, move away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and start over. Well, we did it.

We left a wonderful community, great neighborhood and great friends for this new adventure. And now I’m thinking, ummmm, what in the world have we done? It’s going to be great, but right now this property is a diamond in the rough … and I mean ROUGH.

Scott and I thought we knew what we were getting into, but almost every day we realize anew that we have more work to do than we thought. Needle Eye Mountain has many secrets. We’ve already uncovered a few so stay tuned.

One of the things that we knew going in was that the existing structures were a mess. First of all, nobody had lived there for about six year. The husband died 10 years ago and then the wife about four years later. Secondly, the couple were hoarders. The family did their best to clean it up after their parents died, but the house was a disaster. Among the things that we found in the house were …….

Lots of old clothes, boxes stacked to the ceiling, scary looking stuffed animals (yes think scary movie types), old sewing machine right in the middle of the bathroom (just incase you feel the urge), and old empty record player, chairs, furniture, lots of jars (some mason jars with unidentifiable contents maybe 20 year old okra?) an aquarium, a school desk, a walker, a treadmill and a room that must only be seen not said… wait for the post on that.. and all of these items covered with rat poop. I should also say that part of the floor had caved in and there was no back door so critters moved on in… wait for that post too..

We spent days throwing things out. And then we demolished it. Scraped it clean. Construction has just begun on our new home. More on that in future posts here. Also under construction is a “shed-do-minium,” a combo garage/shed/apartment that we’ll live in while the house is being completed. More about that too in future posts.

As for the secrets of Needle Eye Mountain, we’ve already uncovered a few so stayed tuned.

Nonetheless, we remain undaunted. Check out some of the “opportunities” we will be tackling as we try to tame Needle Eye Mountain.

The Barn
One of many “sheds”
Machine shop
Root cellar y’all… it is filled with mason jars

Here goes nothing. Wish us luck.

PS. Yes, we got our tetanus shots updated 😂
